Bell Helicopter launched a new production plant in Chihuahua City last week where it plans to manufacture helicopter cabins, noses and tail booms for its commercial helicopters under a $85 million investment.
The Fort Worth-based Textron company will employ 375 workers in its new, 122,000 square-foot plant, located at Parque Industrial Intermex.
Arturo Avila Cisneros, president of the export and manufacturing plants association, said Bell acquired land where it envisions to build an industrial park of its own, seeking to lure suppliers and other companies, effectively doubling its operations here.
During the opening ceremony the first Chihuahuan-manufactured Bell 429 cabin was rolled out, which will be sent to Canada for final assembly.
Until the opening of its new plant, Bell had been working in a rented building since 2008.
Bell installed aluminum sheet subassembly processes and manufacturing of carbon fiber parts in Chihuahua.
The opening ceremony was attended by John Roberts, general manager of Textron International Mexico and Chihuahua State Governor Jose Reyes Baeza Terrazas.
