Electrolux, the Swedish manufacturer of home appliances, announced it has acquired one of its suppliers in Ciudad Juarez as part of a broader strategy to consolidate operations in the Chihuahuan border city.
Michigan-based Clarion Technologies had been supplying Electrolux with plastic injection components for some of the products the company makes here.
Georgina González, Electrolux spokeswoman in Juarez, said the acquisition is part of the company's strategic plan to make its own supplies.
Also this month, Electrolux announced it is transfering here production of front-load washing machines and central vacuum systems.
The company plans to consolidate its front-load washing machine and tumble dryer operations in Ciudad Juarez.
The production transfer is expected to be completed by year's end.
Electrolux, who began operating in Juarez in 2005, employs more than 2,000 workers. Clarion Technologies has about 200 employees.
Clarion Technologies has been supplying plastic components for the local automotive industry, too.
