Chihuahuan company American Beef is McDonald's new and exclusive beef supplier in Mexico, according to the fast food chain.
Felix Ramirez, McDonald's comunication director for northern Latin America, said the selection process is long, as the American company makes sure every new supplier has high technology processes, a steady supply capability, good customer service and government certificates.
"We visit their plant to check for sustainable actions", he said.
The supplier change was effective as of January 1, 2010.
Chihuahua-based American Beef is Mexico's largest hamburger ground beef producer and services institutional customers, franchises, private brands and stores like Walmart in Mexico, Central America, Puerto Rico, United States, Canada and Korea.
American Beef produces brands for companies including Great Value and Member's Mark.
McDonald's, who used 4,200 tons of beef in 2009 in Mexico, could account for up to 15 percent of American Beef's business in Mexico, said Sergio Sandoval, the Chihuahuan company's chief marketing officer. ____
