Students from Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez designed and built an off-road vehicle to take part, for the third time, in the international collegiate Baja SAE competition in South Carolina.
The 15 engineering students from the mechatronics, automotive, aerospace, industrial, electric departments at UACJ will face counterparts from 100 higher education institutions.
Participant countries in the event, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) include the US, Canada, Mexico and Brasil.
Vehicles will be tested for performance and endurance under rough terrain conditions.
The UACJ vehicle has an independent steering system, a continuously variable transmission and runs at 55 kph.
The competition aims at providing students with challenging projects that involve the planning, designing and manufacturing tasks required when introducing a new product to the consumer market.
