Chihuahuan writer Liliana Pedroza has won Mexico's 2009 Julio Torri Youth Short Story National Prize in an unanimous vote for her book Cartografía del Abismo [A Cartography of Abyss], which, she said, has a simple storyline: "exploring the perversion of pleasure".
The Tierra Adentro Cultural Program, the Arts and Culture National Council [CNCA] and the Coahuilan Culture Institute announced the winner entry. The prize includes the publishing of the winning book.
During the event judging panel members Verónica Murguía, Mauricio Montiel Figueiras and Jesús de León Montalvo agreed that Cartografía del Abismo is a book where the author aptly takes on the different narrative voices with a very consolidated mindframe.
Liliana Pedroza was born in Chihuahua City in 1976. She studied Spanish Literature at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua and has a doctoral degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
She received a grant from the National Fund for Arts and Culture and the Alfaro Siqueiros State Fund. Pedroza currently works as a university professor.
