Twenty four racing teams from Mexico City; El Paso, Texas and Chihuahua State took part this month in Rally 4x4: All-Terrain Guachochi Challenge in the village of Guachochi, a small indian community in Southern Sierra Tarahumara.
Competitors raced through 105 kilometers of winding forest trails, cliffs, rivers and mountain communities during a seven-hour span.
Interestingly, they weren't competing to finish the race first, but to take as many pictures as possible out of a total of 36 at predetermined spots using GPS navigation devices.
According to organizers, this was an orientation and navigation competition, as drivers used maps, computers, GPS, rulers and compasses to locate the landmarks and cameras to take the most pictures they could within a preset period of time.
A team from Ciudad Juarez, Ignacio Madrid and Carlos Madrid from Explora 4x4, won the Category A competition with 24 "successful" pictures. |
