Juarez university taps environmental agency
Sunday, 23 May 2010 21:48

utcjbuildingUniversidad Tecnologica de Ciudad Juarez signed an agreement with the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC), a US-Mexico agency advancing environmental projects in the border, to support its renewable energy engineering degree.

The agreement calls for Cocef (the agency's Spanish acronym) to help UTCJ develop strategies and projects aimed at protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development using its 15-year experience in the border.

"For us, it is an important agreement because we at Cocef are interested in getting involved with the community in activities that benefit the environment and human health", said Daniel Chacon Anaya, Cocef's general manager.

"The alliance will have very positive results. We can contribute the experience we have built during 15 years of work on environmental projects along the border".

Humberto Carlos Morales, UTCJ president, said:

"This agreement allows us to set an example as an education institution in implementing, within our infrastructure, every energy and water conservation initiative. And not exactly as an economic mechanism but as a environmental protection and sustainable development effort".

UTCJ is planning to install a wind power unit at its campus, according to Morales.

The renewable energy engineering degree offered by UTCJ focuses on design, improvement and installation of solar and wind energy systems.
