After defeating defending champion Dominican Republic, Brazil won the X Women's Volleyball Pan-American Cup for the third time in the history of the tournament, capping a week-long competition between 12 national teams from all over the Americas in Ciudad Juarez.
The Brazilians overcame their Caribbean rivals in consecutive sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-19), while the Dominicans took their fifth silver in the Cup.
More than 50,000 Juarenses attended the 44 games from July 1-9 at the Gimnasio Universitario and Gimnasio del Colegio de Bachilleres of Juarez.
Sheilla Castro of Brazil was named the Cup's Most Valuable Player.
According to Cristóbal Marte, executive committee president of the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (Norceca), the organization is considering the State Government's invitation to hold more tournaments here within the next four years.
Teams from Argentina, United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Peru, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Brazil and Mexico took part in the competition.
